A substantial three-way guideway system, which supports the longitudinal travel of a moving column, provides the Mori Seiki SVL5020 long-bed vertical machining centre with plenty rigidity for the high speed milling and routing of aircraft parts or for the general milling of ferrous components. The SVL5020 has a 2650mm by 510mm table which accepts long components or can be partitioned for 'pendulum' machining operations. The spindle head provides a speed range up to 12,000 rev/min, or optionally 20,000 rev/min.

Fast traverse rates are 42m/min.

Three longitudinal linear roller bearing ways support the rigid travelling column carriage.

The column carries the vertical spindle head which features a directly driven motor spindle of 22/18.5kW.

The column rides on a substantial carriage which provides 2300mm of X-axis traverse and 510mm of Y-axis movement.

The spindle head has a travel of 510mm (Z-axis).

Tool magazine capacity is for 30 BT-40 shank tools of up to 300mm length and 80mm diameter (with tools in adjacent pockets).

Tool change time is 0.9sec tool-to-tool and 6.5sec cut-to-cut.

The simultaneous three-axis CNC is the Mori Seiki MSG 805 equipped with the latest MAPPS advanced programming system.

It has a capacity for storing 200 programs and is fitted with a RS-232-C input/output port.

MAPPS offers conversational and automatic programming, program simulation, tool registration, optional networking and other features.
