One controller, one drive
In today's competitive global market, paint shop automationmust develop to a higher level of technology to match productionquality needs. At the same time the customer requires increasedreliability with better diagnostic tools and lower demands onmaintenance, spares stock holding, etc. One of the Durr controlphilosophies, and possibly the most important, is one controllerand one drive system for all Durr machines - Ecobell, air spray,robot, feather duster, air blower, handling devices and specialmachines.
This philosophy is based on products described as DurrEcoDrive and Durr EcoRC2 Durr EcoDrive is used in conjunctionwith the EcoRC2 via an electrically isolated fibre opticinterface called Sercos.
Multiple drive devices areinterconnected in a 'serial' configuration to and fromthe controller for easy connection with minimal cabling, improveddiagnostics and configuration.
The EcoRC2 brings significantcost, reliability and maintainability advantages to Durr and itscustomers, particularly when using multiple machine zones in aplant.
The easier maintenance reduced training and spares stockholding, and faster initial installation and commissioning allcontribute to a higher up-time efficiency.
A teach pendant isavailable for programming the drive movements.
It useseasy-to-use Durr EcoTalk high level language, provides fullparameter setting from the pendant, uses only three levels ofmenus, is ergonomic and of lightweight design.
The devices eachhave their own individual pre-programmed flash module or flashmemory card.
In the event of a damaged or faulty servo drive, theflash module from the damaged unit can be fitted into the newdrive with no reprogramming being necessary.
Likewise, with adamaged or faulty CPU (central processing unit), the flash memorycard module from the damaged CPU can be fitted into the new CPUwith no program download being necessary.
To provide a moreefficient and self contained control system, Durr has alsoenhanced the software to take on the additional responsibilitiesfor application special functions to match production qualityneeds.
With these major advances, Durr has introduced a controlsystem architecture with full hardware and software commonalityto perfect all aspects of the painting process.
