Global communications system for Durr engineers
The Compass World-Wide Communications Systems is designed to provide Durr engineers all over the world with quick and easy access to conveyor designs and information. In today's world, effective communication is of utmostimportance to any multinational corporation. Business relies onit. Decisions are based on it.
Profits are gained from it.
Toensure that the most up-to-date information is available to theirengineers, Durr's Automation and Conveyor Techniquesdivision has added another element to the usual telephony, computer networks, faxes, video conferencing and e-mail.
TheCompass World-Wide Communications Systems is designed to provideDurr engineers all over the world with quick and easy access toconveyor designs and information, as well as recent technicalupdates, documents and photographs.
Durr's five key conveyortech centres in France, Germany, the United States, Poland, andItaly will be linked by ISDN lines to the powerful Oracledatabase by servers, which, along with general access, allow themto update their data and save it on the system at regularintervals.
Each technical centre is responsible for updating itsown designs, and these updates spread to the other serversregularly, in a circle of information flow.
The rest ofDurr's ACT divisions hold Read Only licences.
Theydon't require the ability to upload, but they have dial-upfacilities to the servers that allow them complete access as wellas instantaneous updates.
The engineers can also alter thedesigns themselves, without saving them to the system, givingthem the ability to experiment individually.
Paul Anderson, salesand marketing director, Durr, UK says, 'Compass World-WideCommunications is an invaluable tool that will unify the ACTdivision in a way that just wasn't possible before.
Itencourages teamwork on a global scale.' Compass'sweb-type browser has an interface where names or phrases can beentered to search for listings.
E-mail will be added next year,so crucial information--such a service bulletins--can be sent outimmediately on the same system.
Also from next year, the PaintFinishing Division will be connected.
The system, which has beenoperating as a test run between Germany and Poland for the pasttwo years, goes global in 2000.
