Nine new high-performance Charmilles wire and spark erosion machines to be delivered by end of the first quarter of 2007. Market-leading EDM specialist - Charmilles - part of AgieCharmilles GF has announced that it has taken an order for nine new EDM machines from Renault F1.

The order for Charmilles' high-performance wire and spark erosion machines will be completed in March 2007 when the final batch of five machines will be delivered to Renault F1 Team's facility in Enstone, Oxfordshire, UK.

This final batch includes delivery of a new Robofil 640 CleanCut wire EDM machine - the very latest model available from Charmilles' popular and highly-successful CleanCut range of machines.

The nine machines purchased by Renault F1 are as follows.

* wire edm machines are: one Robofil 2050; two Robofil 440 CleanCut; two Robofil 240 Cleancut and one Robofil 640 CleanCut.

* Spark erosion EDM machines are three of the Roboform 350 type.

Said Peter Pearce, Charmilles product specialist: 'We have developed strong partner relationships with Renault F1 since 1995 - and today Charmilles EDM technology is right at the heart of Renault's manufacturing operations.' He explained: 'There are over 6000 parts that go into making a F1 car - and more than 300 of these are manufactured on our Robofil and Roboform machines.

This represents some 5% of all drawn parts and embraces a diverse range of titanium, aluminium, exotic and high-strength steel components used in the cars' front and rear wings; braking, transmission and suspension systems - shafts, flanges, uprights, struts, etc.' The new EDM machines will give Renault F1 improved machining performance - faster cutting speeds (removal rates); increased accuracy; superior surface finish; greater process reliability.

The machines will operate around-the-clock ensuring that new and/or modified parts can be manufactured quickly to meet the most stringent of deadlines.

Concluded Pearce: The delivery of nine new Charmilles EDM machines to the Renault F1 Team reinforces the dominant position Charmilles technology occupies in the motor sport sector.'
