Solid carbide cutters mill aluminium faster
Solid carbide cutters mill aluminium faster solid carbide cutters - 3-20mm diameter - deliver much higher cutting speeds and feeds for machining aluminium than conventional cutters. The latest addition to the WNT solid carbide milling cutter range is proving to be extremely advantageous to those companies machining aluminium and other non-ferrous materials. The 93033 series cutters range in size from 3mm to 20mm diameter and feature a single grind geometry with no relief angle.
This provides a very sharp, stable cutting edge, delivering much higher cutting speeds and feeds than conventional cutters.
The improved performance is also helped by the specially designed geometry and helix angle, which enhances swarf evacuation.
Machining of full slots is a particular 'forte' of these cutters, thanks to the extremely strong core.
Full slot milling up to 1.5 x diameter is a straightforward process.
In real life cutting trials WNT (UK) is reporting increases in cutting speeds of 25% and feedrates increased by a massive 250%.
The result at this particular customer was a reduction in cycle time from 13 min down to 4 min, a phenomenal 225% improvement.
This same cutter was still performing at this rate two weeks after first being put on the machine.
'We are exceptionally pleased with the results that our customers are achieving with these solid carbide end mills,' said WNT (UK) managing director Tony Pennington.
