CNC wizard faster Citizen programming
Citizen CNC sliding head automatic lathes can now be easily programmed in a matter of minutes via a newly developed CNC Wizard that incorporates a code library for different machining processes with reference material and diagrams relative to the part being machined. As a result, the possibility of error, the time to input M and G codes and the need to check procedures in the machine manual is considerably reduced. Developed by the software applications team at NC Engineering in Watford, the new CNC Wizard is ideal for companies that maybe training new setters or prefer to modify existing programs as a quicker solution for new jobs.
The new wizard also includes functions for program transfer and communication.
The Wizard is able to take users step by step through procedures using a series of templates that feature easy to understand illustrations and mainly require yes or no or answers selected from a list of options.
Basic information such as the width of a parting tool or bar diameter are then entered against prompts which lead to a display of the program with all the correct synchronisation commands incorporated.
Depending on the Citizen machine being programmed, which can include the most complex M-Series able to carry up to 80 tools and the latest L-Series, the next stage divides the program into specific sections to suit the machine.
For example, sections can include main and subspindle, turret or toolslide against which it is a simple matter to select the operations required on the component directly from a menu.
Following the process selection, a code editor requests the insertion of relevant values and a single click inserts the code into the program.
A more detailed description of the process and a diagram is included to provide additional support information on the operation.
