Versatile mill/turn centres also cut at high speed
As well as taking heavy-duty cuts at low speeds mill/turn centres can machine delicate components at higher spindle speed as well as mill contours, flats and drill and tap end faces.
The Mazak Quickturn Nexus 300M and 350M make full use of available technology to provide users with a capability to take heavy-duty cuts at low speeds while maintaining the agility to machine more delicate components at higher spindle speeds. The rigidity of the 7900kg machine (350M) is central to its ability to combine the fine machining of light alloy components and the high metal removal, heavy-duty machining associated with ferrous materials. This, combined with an integral spindle motor rated up to 30kW with 534ft/lb of torque, the versatility provided by 12 rotary tool positions and a C-axis capable of indexing to 0.001 deg, makes the machines adaptable to most applications.
Users are able to mill contours, flats and drill and tap end faces in a single set-up.
Both the 300M and 350M come with three between centre distance options, these being 650mm, 1200mm and 1500mm.
The largest of these being manufactured in the UK at Yamazaki Mazak's Cyber production facility in Worcester.
Both the 300M and 350M feature a 420mm maximum turning diameter, with maximum bar diameter capacities of 77mm and 102mm respectively.
Rotary tools are driven by a 7.5kW motor and can be located in any one of the 12 turret positions.
The power of this motor facilitating the use of drills up to 23mm diameter, end mills up to 25mm diameter and taps to a maximum size of M24x3.
As standard the machines feature a NC electric tailstock with positioning and thrust forces controlled by the NC program via operator set M-code parameters.
This helps to ensure components are consistently supported, further contributing to increased accuracy and quality of the finish-machined part.
Along with other machines in the Quick Turn Nexus range the 300M and 350M are controlled by the Mazatrol 640T CNC system.
The conversational format of the Mazatrol control assists in reducing programming time and results in the first-off component being delivered ahead of comparable ISO-based systems.
